Iveco SA hosts African mayors

At the beginning of June, the City of Tshwane hosted mayoral delegations from African capital cities as they attended the African Cities Sustainability Forum.

The annual conference provided a platform to discuss the link between sustainable development, climate change and reduction of poverty. It was attended by more than 35 mayors from countries including Ghana, Uganda, Burundi, Cameroon, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

As part of the week spent in Pretoria, the mayoral delegates spent time at the Iveco South Africa Works assembly plant in Rosslyn.

On behalf of CNH Industrial (CNHi) South Africa and the Iveco brand, the group were welcomed by Conway Maluleka, government sales manager, and were taken through an overview of the CNHi brands and the Iveco offering to the market.

Italian Ambassador, Pietro Giovanni Donnici, delivered an address to the delegates followed by Mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, who thanked the African mayors for their attendance and participation. As a gesture of goodwill, Msimanga was presented with an honorary engraved key from Iveco South Africa.

In addition to a tour of the manufacturing facility, the delegates were also shown a range of Iveco solutions that are perfectly suited to municipal applications. These included a fully operational ambulance built on an Iveco Daily panel van, a water tanker on a 682 chassis, as well as the 65-seater Afriway bus.

A Eurocargo with various crane attachments, a 19-m3 refuse compactor on a Trakker 6×4 chassis, and truck tractors from the Trakker and Stralis ranges completed the line-up available for the delegates to touch and feel.

β€œIt was a great honor for us as Iveco South Africa to welcome the City of Tshwane and the accompanying mayors from across Africa to our facility. The visit was a perfect opportunity to showcase our world-class production facility and our capacity to provide the right products and solutions to the sustainability challenges faced by the continent,” says Martin Liebenberg, head of sales, Africa right-hand drive.
