Feast your eyes on Jeep’s bakkie!

Rumour has it that Jeep is on the verge of launching … a bakkie! The new Jeep Gladiator is said to be revealed at the LA Auto Show on November 28, and images were leaked earlier this week.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator will be based on the venerable Wrangler platform (a new Wrangler was launched earlier this year and will land in South Africa during 2019).

Jeepgladiatorforum.com reports that the pictures and information were leaked through the Fiat Chrysler Association’s media site before being removed.

So what do we know? It will be powered by a 3,6-litre Pentastar V6 engine with an eight-speed automatic, or six-speed manual transmission. A 3,0-litre EcoDiesel V6 will be available in 2020.

Jeep’s famous off-road ability remains in its blood. It is said to have “best-in-class” towing capacity and payload, “unmatched” crawl ratios and the ability to ford 762 mm of water.

This is not Jeep’s first pickup rodeo. Between 1962 and 1988, it built a series of full-size pickups based in the Wagoneer platform. The original model was known as the Gladiator…

We’ll wait until the official launch to get all the details, but for now you can enjoy some of the leaked images… Let us know what you think.
