JMC Carrying now with plus-sized capability

The JMC Carrying range has been expanded with a four-tonne variant, called the Plus. It’s larger and safer than the standard Carrying – and comes in at under R300 000 in drop-side configuration (box vans or tippers are also available).

The Carrying Plus sits on a 2 800 mm or 3 360 mm wheelbase and has a dual-tyre rear axle. A tare weight of 2 480 kg, together with a gross vehicle mass of 6 500 kg, results in a payload of 4 020 kg.

When fitted with a drop-side body, the Carrying Plus boasts a cargo area of 4 155 mm by 1 940 mm, with a depth of 380 mm. Fitted with a wide cab (two cabin widths are available: the standard 1 880 mm, or wide 2 050 mm), the body width stretches to 2 050 mm.

With a box body, dimensions are 4 080 mm by 1 910 mm/2 050 mm (normal and wide-body respectively) and a height of 1 930 or 2 050 mm.

The Isuzu-derived 2,8-litre turbodiesel engines offers 84 kW and 210 Nm, while an 83-litre fuel tank maximises operating range.

A heavy-duty braking system includes ABS and an exhaust brake and drive is to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Sixteen-inch wheels are fitted, with heavy-duty tyres. A large window area and large exterior mirrors maximise visibility.

The needs of the driver and up to two passengers are met with power steering with steering wheel height adjustment and, on Lux versions, air-conditioning and electric windows, a radio, reverse warning alarm, front foglamps, dual sun visors and generous cabin oddment space.

According to JMC, testing mileage exceeded two-million kilometres, in every conceivable condition, to ensure that all possible scenarios have been investigated.

A three-year/90 000 km service plan and a five-year/150 000 km warranty, with backup from JMC’s network of 25 service outlets, is standard.
