A proactive approach has been taken by N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) to support the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, by launching its “I Put My Hand Up for Road Safety” campaign earlier this year.
N3TC is responsible for the N3 Toll Route between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng. Being one of South Africa’s major economic and tourism arterials, and with South Africa having an unacceptably high vehicle crash fatality rate, N3TC fully supports the UN safety campaign.
“N3TC has always been concerned about the lives lost and people injured as a result of accidents on the N3 Toll Route. We believe that by working together and joining hands in this movement for safer roads, all South Africans will benefit,” says Con Roux, commercial manager of N3TC.
The campaign, which has the core component of “Road Safety Fridays”, required all N3TC staff to sign the N3TC Decade of Action for Road Safety Pledge, which is an active commitment to driving and using South Africa’s roads safely. Anyone wanting to join the movement towards safer roads can also commit to the pledge.
Over the next ten years, motorists using the N3 Toll Route will witness N3TC’s active road safety awareness campaigns. As road safety is everyone’s responsibility, N3TC has taken an inside out approach; encouraging all its staff, contractors and service providers to support the campaign; while creating public awareness along the N3 Toll Route.
Implementation of these road safety plans will be undertaken in partnership with the Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal provincial departments of road safety, the National Department of Transport, SANRAL, RTMC, RAF and N3TC’s incident management and route services teams.| Next > |
