Amarok reveals its dark side

Volkswagen South Africa (VWSA) has added a special edition Amarok – the Dark Label – to its range of double-cab bakkies.

The R674 600 Dark Label enters the market as the competition is increasing from the likes of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class, and “black-themed” bakkies seem to be the flavour of the month.

In creating its black bakkie VWSA has sourced local parts, including a MAXE matte black styling bar with “Amarok” lettering.

Other visual enhancements include door handles and exterior mirrors in matte black, matte-black highlights on the front protection grille with dark-chrome lacquered ledges, tinted rear windows, blacked-out B-pillars, black side sills, smoked taillights and new 18-inch Rawson alloy wheels.

The darkness continues inside with a new, black “Greenhouse” headlining; Vienna leather seats; silk glance chrome air-vent borders and Dark Label floor mats.

The Amarok Dark Label is based on the 2.0 BiTDi model and produces the same 132 kW and 420 Nm. It drives through VW’s eight-speed auto and permanent 4Motion four-wheel drive system.

In addition to the dark-themed addenda, standard equipment is generous. Included are off-road Electronic Stabilisation Programme, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, front and rear park-distance control, tyre-pressure monitor, multi-function on-board computer and the Composition Media infotainment system with app-connect and voice control.

Not enough kit? You can opt for seat heating (winter package), a heavy-duty suspension with an increased gross vehicle mass, a rear-view camera, Climatronic air-conditioning, the Discover Media infotainment with satnav, as well as rubber floor coverings.
